How we’ll review poker rooms

Casino review criteria mostly transfer — payments and payout speed, safety, apps — but poker adds room-specific measures we’ll test at real tables:

1. Traffic, measured at real hours. A room’s health is cash tables running and tournaments filling at 8 p.m. and 11 a.m. We’ll count, at multiple times, rather than quote operator numbers.
2. Rake and rake transparency. The house’s cut of pots and tournament fees, and whether it’s published plainly. A percent of rake matters more to a regular than any signup perk.
3. Game spread. Hold’em cash levels, tournament schedule depth, and whether anything beyond NLHE (PLO, mixed) survives outside peak.
4. Software. Table stability on mobile, multi-tabling on desktop, and the anti-collusion/bot enforcement a regulated room owes its players.
5. Ecosystem fairness. Ring-fenced pools are small ponds — how a room handles seat-scripting and predatory-regular dynamics matters more here than in giant pools.

What Alberta players should expect from regulated rooms

The frame that applies market-wide applies here: 18+ verification, AGLC registration and AiGC agreements, self-exclusion covering poker, and payouts on the standard rails. Bankrolls at a regulated room sit under Alberta’s player-fund protections — the single biggest practical difference from the offshore rooms Albertans have used for twenty years, where the bankroll’s safety is the operator’s mood.
